The Drilling & Engineering Division of Mineral Exploration & Consultancy Limited (MECL) plays a pivotal role in supporting India’s mineral resource development. With an extensive fleet of modern drill-rigs, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and two dedicated Repair & Maintenance Centres, the Division delivers high-quality exploratory drilling services across the country. Our expertise covers coal, lignite, iron ore, copper, phosphorite, bauxite, rare earth elements (REE), and a wide spectrum of other mineral commodities.

Services We Offer

1. Exploratory Drilling Services (PAN India)

MECL undertakes comprehensive subsurface exploration drilling across diverse geological terrains of India. Our capabilities include:
• Core and non-core drilling for coal, lignite, iron ore, copper, phosphorite, REE, and other mineral deposits.
• Deployment of high-capacity hydrostatic, rotary, DTH, and RC drill-rigs.
• High-quality core recovery and strict adherence to national and international exploration standards.
• Expert drilling operations undertaken by experienced field crews and geotechnical teams.

2. Repair & Maintenance Centres (RMC), Hingna & Ranchi
MECL operates two state-of-the-art Repair & Maintenance Centres dedicated to the overhaul and servicing of drilling equipment. Services include:
• Repair and refurbishment of conventional drill-rigs such as VOL-300, RD-100, KME-1000, RD-60, RD-30, Auger rigs, Vacuum Suction rigs, and hydrostatic drill-rigs.
• Maintenance and repair of high-pressure mud pumps including LMPS-125, LMPS-150, GPS-150, GPS-125, and LMPS series.
• Overhaul of auxiliary drilling equipment, trucks, and supporting machinery.
• Testing, calibration, and quality assurance to ensure ready-to-deploy performance for field operations.

3. Central Manufacturing Centre (CMC), Nagpur
The Central Manufacturing Centre supports MECL’s drilling operations through the in-house production of high-quality drilling accessories.
CMC manufactures:
• A complete range of core barrels (NQ, HQ, BQ)
• Various sizes of drill rods (NQ, HQ, BQ)
Diamond bits, Reaming shells, TC bits, and special-purpose drilling tools
• Adaptors, hoisting plugs, overshot assemblies, and other critical drilling components

CMC ensures precision manufacturing supported by rigorous quality assurance and process monitoring.

Central Manufacturing Centre (CMC) – Plant & Machinery

The Central Manufacturing Centre (CMC), Nagpur is the backbone of MECL’s engineering and production capabilities. It is equipped with modern, high-precision plant and machinery designed to manufacture and refurbish critical drilling components with stringent quality control.

1. Induction Hardening Plant
A state-of-the-art hardening system used primarily for drill rod end hardening, subs, adaptors, and tool joints.
Key Features:
• High-frequency induction technology for precise heating
• Programmable heating & quenching cycles to achieve uniform hardness
• Improves wear resistance and extends service life of drill rods
• Inbuilt temperature control system for metallurgical consistency

• Hardening of male & female tool joints
• Hardening of adaptors and subs
• Surface strengthening of drilling accessories subjected to high torque and rotational stress

2. CNC Turning Centres
Advanced CNC machines used for machining drill rod ends, subs, couplings, hoisting plugs, and precision drilling accessories.

• Multiple tool turrets for complex operations
• Ideal for thread cutting (NW/HW/PW/NQ/HQ/PQ)

3. Vertical Machining Centres (VMC)
