About Vigilance
The Central Vigilance Commission was set up by the Government of India by a Resolution, dated 11.2.1964 in pursuance of the recommendations made by the Committee on Prevention of Corruption (popularly known as Santhanam Committee)
The CVC Bill was passed by both Houses of Parliament in 2003 and Vigilance Commission Act, 2003 came into effect on 11th September 2003.
The Commission shall consist of a Central Vigilance Commissioner and not more than two Vigilance Commissioners.
The Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) heads the Vigilance Division of the organisation concerned and acts as an advisor to the chief executive in all matters pertaining to vigilance. He also provides a link between his organisation and the Central Vigilance Commission.
Vigilance Department in MECL is primarily focused in preventive Vigilance as per CVC guidelines.
