Remote Sensing

About 50 projects have been handled so far. MECL has been short listed by NRSA. It can participate in programmes on implementing decision of IMSD, related to geological and geohydrological aspects.

The immense application potential of space-borne Remote Sensing techniques was visualised very early by MECL and established an Environment and Remote Sensing unit in 1989.A team of highly qualified geo-scientists with long & varied experience to carryout remote sensing studies for various applications . The members of the team have the experience of working with foreign experts and capable of presenting the findings of the investigation/studies in a proper scientific, easy to comprehend form with computerised drawings, photographs, tables, graphs; analysis, etc.

SERVICE OFFERED

Mineral Targetting (Lignite)
  • Litho-Structural Mapping Mineral Targetting

  • Remote sensing data can be utilised very effectively for litho-structural mapping. Lithological boundaries and structural elements like folds, faults, lineaments which are very essential in

Mineral Targeting (Coal)

Remote sensing studies were carried out in western part of Singrauli main basin. Based on the remote sensing data interpretation and other collateral data 5 promising zones were identified. Subsequent exploration by drilling has proved the results.

Mineral Targeting (Other Minerals)

Fcc of liss-iii&pan merged image exhibiting litho-structural province of gold bearing jonnagiri schist province image exhibiting primary &secondary fold structures,faults/lineaments various litho units like metamorphics, intrusives, granodiorites and younger pink granites were interpreted from remote sensing data the study has revealed seven sheared zones associated with faults, folds and intrusive activity.

Change Detection Studies

This aspect involves data of 2 dates or periods and then compares the changes that have happened in land use / land cover, morphology, etc.., to understood the rate of change, to explore the reasons for change, etc. This type of study enables to assess changes in an area due to any developmental activity like mining etc. It is also useful in monitoring of afforestation, town planning, etc.

For example plantation area has drastically been reduced from 1992 to 1996.
